I love the silkiness and translucence of white poppies! In light of the ongoing wars across the world, I wanted to paint something that represents peace. The white poppy was first introduced as a symbol of remembrance of the victims of war and a commitment to pacifism in 1933 by the Women's Cooperative Guild in the UK. It was adopted by the Peace Pledge Union, also in the UK, the following year.
