The Guyitt House was located in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, on Hwy #3. After many years of abandonment, it was torn down in 2023. If you google it, the captions invariably state that it was "the most photographed abandoned house in Canada". Doubtless all those people saying that were from Ontario! It may have been the most photographed house in southwestern Ontario, or it may have been photographed so many times just because of the density of population. But I have no doubt that there are MANY such landmarks in Canada that would challenge that assertion. At any rate, my sister, Joan, was one of those photographers and she sent me many of her photos from which to work.
Anyway, the house has been completely demolished. The Mary Webb Centre in Highgate, Ontario is staging an exhibition of photos and paintings of the Guyitt House in September and October of 2023.
I painted this collage for that purpose.
